Kraken Land is a 3D platform game strongly inspired by some of the biggest classics of the genre. The game invites you on an adventure through several settings that resemble a tropical archipelago. Your main character – as you ... might imagine? – is a tiny jumping octopus.
The game has more than a little bit in common with the Super Mario Bros saga in its 3D versions – hence besides a lot of similarity in terms of gameplay, you'll have a level of depth that obliges you to repeat some settings to find all the secrets hidden within. This all translates into the standard three stars with three different objectives per level, plus a ranking system that pushes you to finish the levels as fast as possible.
Your character can do a double jump, destroy enemies by falling on them, bounce off walls, or sprint in a straight line. But what really makes the variety explode in Kraken Land are the items. Whether you’re hang-gliding under a bird, putting a jetpack on your back, or grabbing an exploding barrel to help you attack while you're jumping, you’ll experience new features that go far beyond a change in scenery in each level.
Kraken Land is a fantastic Android platformer that’s as colorful as it is fun. The only feature that doesn’t absolutely excel is the precision of the D-pad when you’re trying to jump, but that's a built-in problem with smartphones and we can live with it. While nothing can replace a good gamepad, you've gotta know how to expand your horizons, right?
